Last week the leaders of the European Union agreed on nominations at the extraordinary European Council in Brussels.The European Council elected Charles Michel as the new President of the European Council and proposed Ursula von der Leyen as candidate for the President of the European Commission.

European Council appoints new EU leaders
The European Council elected today Charles Michel as President of the European Council. The President of the European Council is elected for the period from 1 December 2019 until 31 May 2022. The mandate of two and a half years of the President of the European Council is renewable once.
